The University of Notre Dame is hiring a Senior Director, Annual Giving to design and implement strategies for acquiring, retaining, and upgrading annual donors to build a healthy and sustainable donor pipeline. As Senior Director, you will oversee Notre Dame’s annual fundraising campaigns and initiatives, giving societies and events, direct unrestricted fundraising, and the department’s digital communications operation.
You will establish clear strategies, develop action plans, and set goals for unrestricted giving to the University. To be successful in this role, you’ll need to be a proven leader with a keen understanding of fundraising practices, audience segmentation, data analysis, direct and digital fundraising campaigns, storytelling, and communications.
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Development: Storytelling, Stewardship, and Annual Giving—and in collaboration with other senior leaders throughout the University—you will develop a unified vision that calls the Annual Giving team to be the best fundraisers, storytellers, content creators, and experience-makers in the world. You will leave an indelible mark on the University of Notre Dame and our students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic and Human Resource Leadership
- Attract, grow, and retain top talent at the University.
- Lead a growing team of 30 leaders and experts to achieve $100 million in unrestricted giving by 2026.
- Equip our teams with the people, skills, and resources we need to navigate the future confidently.
- Establish relationships with peer institutions and other non-profit organizations to stay abreast of industry trends.
- Expertly manage operating budgets.
Fundraising
- Meet and exceed unrestricted fundraising goals that empower Notre Dame students to be forces for good in the world.
- Develop unrestricted revenue projections, fundraising targets, and action plans.
- Oversee fundraising and engagement activities for the Sorin Society, Rockne Athletics Fund, Athletic Director’s Circle, Jesse Harper Council, Order of St. Thomas More, O’Hara Society, and all unrestricted funds.
- Grow giving society renewal rates to 90%.
- Lead the execution of Notre Dame Day, an annual day of giving.
Campaigns and Initiatives
- Pioneer solicitation campaigns that engage donors and inspire unrestricted giving.
- Leverage design, data, technology, and content to deliver impactful stories and appeals.
- Catapult the effectiveness of storytelling and engagement efforts through web, social, in-person, and other channels.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- A commitment to the mission and values of the University of Notre Dame
- A proven leader that can develop and lead high-performing teams
- Experience with strategic and annual planning, project management, and process improvement efforts
- Demonstrated analytical and data mining skills
- Experience in major gift fundraising and annual giving is required
- Evidence of excellent spoken, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Commitment to a collaborative, empathetic, and encouraging team culture
